چکیده

Extra Ordinary (X) mode conversion to Bernstein wave near Upper Hybrid Resonance (UHR) layer plays an important role in plasma heating through cyclotron resonance. Wave generation at UHR and parametric decay at high power has been observed during Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) heating experiments in toroidal magnetic fusion devices. A small linear system with ECR and UHR layer within the system has been used to conduct experiments on X-B conversion and parametric decay process as a function of system parameters. Direct probing in situ is conducted and plasma heating is evidenced by soft x-ray emission measurement. Experiments are performed with hydrogen plasma produced with 160-800 W microwave power at 2.45 GHz of operating frequency at 10 mbar pressure. The axial magnetic field required for ECR is such that the resonant surface (B = 875 G) is situated at the geometrical axis of the plasma system. Experimental results will be presented in the paper.

Electron Bernstein wave heating via the slow X-B mode conversion process with direct launching from the high field side in LHD

In the large helical device (LHD), direct oblique launching of the extraordinary (X-) mode from the high magnetic field side is available without installation of any additional mirror or installation of a launcher in the inner side of the torus. The launched X-mode first encounters the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) layer from the high magnetic field side and then approaches the upper hybri...

گرم کردن پلاسما با امواج برنشتاین الکترونی از طریق واگردانی امواج عادی و فراعادی درلایه UHR

Magnetically confined plasma can be heated with high power microwave sources. In spherical torus the electron plasma frequency exeeds the electron cyclotron frequency (EC) and, as a consequence, electromagnetic waves at fundamental and low harmonic EC cannot propagate within the plasma. In contrast, electron Bernstein waves (EBWs) readily propagate in spherical torus plasma and are absorbed str...

Comparison between off-resonance and electron Bernstein waves heating regime in a microwave discharge ion source.

A microwave discharge ion source (MDIS) operating at the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud of INFN, Catania has been used to compare the traditional electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating with an innovative mechanisms of plasma ignition based on the electrostatic Bernstein waves (EBW). EBW are obtained via the inner plasma electromagnetic-to-electrostatic wave conversion and they are absorbed by...

Electron Bernstein Wave Heating and Emission in the TCV Tokamak

Electron cyclotron heating of high density plasmas is limited due to so-called wave cut-offs. The double mode conversion scheme from O-mode to X-mode and finally to Bernstein mode O-X-B offers the possibility to overcome this limit [1]-[4]. At a particular launching angle, an O-mode wave converts to X-mode at the plasma cut-off. The power transmission function T from Oto X-mode was derived in [...

Catalytic and Non-catalytic Conversion of Methane to C2 Hydrocarbons in a Low Temperature Plasma

The direct conversion of methane to C2 hydrocarbons, in a quartz tube reactor enforced by a DC corona discharge, was investigated at atmospheric pressure. The process was carried out in the presence of metal oxide catalysts of Mn/W/SiO2, Mn/W/SiO2 (tetraethyl orthosilicate, TEOS), and Mn/W/CNT (supported on carbon nanotubes). The total yield to C2 hydrocarbons in the presence of metal oxide cat...
